Twoodie is the first global brand for organic non-consumables: the hardgoods that surround us in every home, school and office:

  • A premium and plastic free alternative to IKEA
  • A market based solution to long term sustainability

We bring quality and transparency to products in our daily physical environment with the help of new technology and have begun with a range of toys because of justified consumer concern around sensitive infants.

This industry is full of monopolies, big box stores, gatekeepers and middlemen.

Toys are cheap, plastic and poorly regulated.

We ensure the safest toys by using organic wood (free of preservatives) and eliminating all materials that may contain toxic Endocrine Disruptors. This class of hazardous chemical is commonly found in PLASTICS but also cosmetics, furniture, pesticides and other synthetic products. Exposure is especially dangerous for pregnant women and growing children.  

Long term research studies such as those published by the UN and World Health Organisation provide scientific data critical of our current plastic consumption and exposure. Journalists such as Nicholas Kristof at the New York Times have reported on the growing threat of Endocrine Disruptors to our health, communities and environment.

Regulation is useless, because companies lie and third parties are too often incentivised and hence conflicted.

Twoodie is a vertically integrated supply chain for 100% organic products. These products are professionally made in Japan and we have developed a system to be able to track (on every single item) the exact longitude, latitude and age of the TREE the product is sourced from as well as other safety and organic ‘credentials’. This technology will be executed with a complete range of children's products now that we have proven with sales in 20+ countries that there is a hungry global clientele.

We are exploring how to verify provenance via distributed nodes which confirm at every location the products status information in real time (and capture this data which can be identified by a hash and accessed over HTTP). This is our long term vision: to create “trust free products” by accessing the transparency made possible by technology.

I've been thinking about this for about two years. This is the first time we have actually found a way to do it, so publishing our plans to made demonstrated, proven and ORGANIC endocrine disruptor free products:

A Blockchain is a continuously growing list of records. Like a giant online ledger that keeps getting updated.

This continuously growing list of records is secured by the fact that it is connected to other computer blockchains (truth by data consensus) and by codes combined with math problems that keep secrets (cryptography).

Each block in a blockchain typically contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp and transaction data.

A cryptographic hash function takes an input and returns an alphanumeric string (long set of letters and numbers)

The hash leads to a location on the internet (i.e through your browser) where one can view the verified timestamp and the transaction data.

The transaction data for twoodie will include:

The location of the source of the wood (a specific tree with longitude and latitude) as well as the age of the tree, as well as the age of the wood (the current date minus the day the tree was planted) as well as confirming data (who logged it, when, what species it is, what tests the species has previously passed etc)

The block related to each item of twoodie product can be assigned to the product by an imprint on the product itself of a code or image.

When the entire process is automated there will be no room for human error and deceit. Initially it has a certain amount of suboptimal ‘trust’ because of the necessary ‘belief’ that the data input was correct (since this is executed by a human), but eventually when it’s all automated this is not a consideration.

When a mature tree is harvested it is then replanted. This sapling will start on the blockchain and so the 100 year hard wood life cycle will begin again. With no beginning nor end there is hypothetically no place for human interference and therefore these are trust free products.

Verified by the transparency that new technology (like blockchain, geotagging and other) makes possible.

This is how we create the next generation of SAFE organic products and a brand moat. No conflicted third party verification and corruption. Market based solution to sustainability.
